Our Mission
The BenEvri Project's (formerly The Legacy Project) mission is to preserve the history of the Iranian Jewish experience through accessible and engaging content that serves to educate and bridge generations. Through the BenEvri, we are recording the collective experience of Iran’s Jews, from their day-to-day lives in a predominantly Muslim country, to escaping amidst the Iranian Revolution, and rebuilding their lives in new countries.
With this project, time is of the essence. As the years pass us, we don’t want to miss the opportunity to capture this community’s first hand experiences. Help us support the threads of our story, so the tapestry of our history does not unravel.
Why do we need it?
Our 2500 year long legacy should not end, just because our new home is America. Our history as a unique segment of the Jewish population, Iranian Mizrahi Jews, can not survive without records. We want to maintain our identity, culture, and traditions. This is increasingly important as the second and third generations of Iranian Jews grow up in the United States. The need to conserve our stories is greater than ever. The BenEvri Project provides an avenue to perpetuate our history in a way that will be accessible to both scholars and to future American born generations.
The Future of the BenEvri Project
The future of the BenEvri Project depends on you. Professional recording is a necessity for archiving our history. Please contribute to preserving our legacy by volunteering to share your memories with us (contact legacy@30yearsafter.org for more info).
